TripSplit App Terms
Last Updated: September 2026
These terms cover the TripSplit app. We've kept them plain and reasonably short: mostly they're here to tell you what you're getting, what happens to your stuff, and where the boundaries are. By creating an account you're agreeing to them.
If you're after the terms for our website rather than the app, those are here: Website Terms of Use.
1. Who You're Dealing With
TripSplit is made by Kloopy Ltd, a company registered in England (company number 17257918). Email [email protected] about anything below.
You download TripSplit from Apple's App Store or Google Play, but your agreement about the app itself is with us, not with them — so come to us if you need help.
You need to be at least 13 to have an account.
2. What TripSplit Is
TripSplit helps friends and family work out who owes what on a trip. A few things worth being clear about:
- It's a calculator, not a bank. TripSplit works out and records who owes what. It does not move money, take payments, or settle anything for you. Every actual payment happens between you and the people you're travelling with, outside the app.
- Suggested payments are suggestions. When TripSplit says "Sam pays Alex £20", that's a tidy way to square the group — not a bill, and not something anyone has to follow.
- The maths is only as good as what you type. Wrong amount in, wrong balance out. Where a trip uses more than one currency we convert at rates from an outside provider, taken when the expense is added, so figures can drift from what your bank eventually charges. None of it is financial advice — have a sanity-check before you settle up.
3. Your Account
Look after your login details, and don't let other people use your account. If you sign in with Google or Apple, keep that account secure too — it's the key to this one.
4. What You Put In, and What You Say About Other People
The trips, expenses, notes and photos you add stay yours. Two responsibilities come with that:
- Only add other people's details if you're entitled to. You'll be typing in the names, and sometimes email addresses, of the people you're splitting with. Make sure they'd be happy with that.
- What you record about someone else is your account of it, not a verified fact. Anyone in a trip can add an expense saying who paid, assign shares to other members, or record that a payment happened, and we don't check any of it. If your group disagrees about a figure, that's a conversation between you — we can't arbitrate it or confirm who actually paid whom.
5. Things Not To Do
Don't use TripSplit to break the law, and don't upload or record anything that's abusive, harassing, hateful, threatening, obscene, or that infringes someone else's rights. Don't share invite links with people who shouldn't have access — anyone holding a link can see the trip name and who invited them. Don't try to interfere with how the app works for everyone else.
If something in a trip you're in crosses a line, email [email protected] and tell us. We can remove content and close accounts where we need to.
6. Premium and Tips
Most of TripSplit is free. Two things cost money, both one-off purchases through the App Store or Google Play — no subscription, nothing auto-renews.
Premium lifts the limits on a single trip: unlimited members and expenses, plus receipt scanning and item-by-item splitting.
- It's for one trip, and it lasts 180 days from when you buy it. Not the length of your trip — 180 days from purchase, whenever your trip happens to be.
- It covers everyone on that trip, not just you.
- It doesn't renew, extend or transfer. You can't move it to another trip, and if the trip gets deleted any time left on it goes with it.
- When it runs out, nothing disappears. Everything already in the trip stays there and stays visible — you just can't add more beyond the free limits. If the trip is already over those limits, you won't be able to add new expenses or members until it's Premium again.
- The free trial upgrade is once per person, ever. And it's used up as soon as any trip you're a member of goes Premium — including when somebody else pays for it. Worth knowing before you join a trip that's about to be upgraded.
Tips are the "buy the developer a coffee" buttons. They're one-off, entirely optional, and they don't unlock anything — they're just a thank you, and they're gratefully received.
Prices are shown in the app and set through the store for your country.
7. Refunds
Apple and Google take the payment, so a refund request goes to them: Apple or Google Play.
If something's genuinely broken and you paid for it, email us as well — we'd rather sort it out than have you fight with a support form. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.
8. Things You Can Lose, and How
This is the section most apps skip. We'd rather you knew.
- Whoever created a trip can delete it for everyone. It disappears from the app after 7 days and nobody can get it back — including us. If a trip matters to you, don't rely on it being there forever.
- You can leave a trip whenever you like, but what you added stays. Anything you paid for or owe remains in the trip under your first name, marked as having left — otherwise everyone else's balances would stop adding up. Your email and the link to your account are removed, and the trip disappears from your app. If you're the last person in a trip, leaving deletes it.
- Other people can't remove you from a trip. Only you can decide to leave.
- Deleting your account anonymises it rather than erasing everything. Your name, email and sign-in details are permanently removed after a 14-day grace period. But the expenses and payments you added to shared trips stay in those trips, shown as "Deleted User", because otherwise everyone else's balances would stop adding up. There's more detail on the account deletion page.
- There's no export button yet. If you'd like a copy of your data, email us and we'll put one together.
9. What We Can and Can't Promise
We work hard to keep TripSplit running, quick and accurate, and we fix things when they break. What we can't promise is that it'll never be down or never get something wrong.
If it does, tell us — genuinely the most useful thing you can do — and we'll put right what we can. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, and we're not trying to sign away anything the law says we're responsible for.
10. Receipt Scanning
If you use receipt scanning, the photo goes to OpenAI to have its text read. We ask your permission before the first one, and nothing is sent unless you agree. It isn't used to train their models. You can use everything else in TripSplit without ever turning it on. The details are in our Privacy Policy.
11. Changes
We'll keep improving TripSplit, and occasionally we'll update these terms. If we change something that matters we'll tell you in the app or by email. Carrying on using TripSplit after that means you're happy with the new version — and if you're not, you can delete your account whenever you like.
12. The Legal Bit
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can still bring a claim in your local courts.
13. Questions
If anything here isn't clear, just ask — we're happy to explain. Email [email protected].
